Character Info

Laia's application for [livejournal.com profile] queenofheartsrp

More to be added as available.

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Laia is tall, lean, and strongly-built. She has substance, but that substance is well-toned and well-trained to be powerful.

2. How old is she?
Laia appears to be in her mid-20s.

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Laia strolls around like she owns the place, whatever that place may be. She carries herself with her head high, with unselfconscious confidence.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Laia is very fit, as required for her job as a Guardian. She eats well, and her immune system is strong. It's rare that she comes down with a cold or infection.

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Laia is not graceful so much as forceful. She has no time and little reason to go slinking around like a feline. She strides.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Laia is attractive. She has a pleasant face, silky hair, and she dresses well. And as many perfectly attractive people do, she has a few complaints about the person that she sees in the mirror. Her hair is too thin, her right ear isn't quite even, her smile is odd... but she carries herself confidently, and would assert that she's beautiful, if asked.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Laia has soft, light brown skin. Gurhalian healing standards and line shields have helped keep it mostly pristine.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Laia's hair is a light blonde, and unusually thin and fine for a Beast. She wears it up in draping pigtails, pinned at the back of her head.

9. What color are her eyes?
Laia's eyes are a clear blue.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Being a Beast, Laia has a slightly canine/feline nose and lip structure, as well as fuzzy, extended ears. She also has a large geometrical tattoo on her upper right arm.

11. What are her chief tension centers?
Laia often clenches her jaw, and spends a lot of time rolling her shoulders when she resettles herself.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Laia favors flowing, comfortable clothing. She prefers to dress in light colors and pastels, and enjoys Moatoob-influenced styles. Her work leaves her little time to go clothes shopping, however, and her closet doesn't have much variety.

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
As a benefit of the resource-rich society that she lives in, Laia's clothes are tailored to fit her. She wears them well, and wears them comfortably.

14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
In the field as a Guardian, she dresses as she pleases, in loose and unrestricting clothing. As the new president of the GUARDIANS, she must dress in much more formal wear, a long jacket in standard-issue GUARDIANS style.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Standard-issue GUARDIANS boy short underwear, if you please.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Laia's voice is a firm alto, deeper than most Gurhalian women's.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Laia speaks loudly, firmly, and surely. She rarely hesitates to say what she wishes to say, blunt almost to a fault.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
As a Beast, Laia's absence of a Moatoob slang/tone in her speech would strike some as notable. She speaks "regular" Galactic Standard.

4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Galactic Standard.

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Laia is an excellent improptu speaker, in that she doesn't hesitate to speak when something needs to be said. It may not be perfect, but it will be honest.

7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
She can clearly get her point across, but isn't much for needless fancy language. Even as President of the GUARDIANS, she is earnest and plain-spoken.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Laia is sharp and well-educated. She was given a full Gurhalian education, and has passed through the GUARDIANS academy. However, she places more value on experience than books. As a result of her time in the GUARDIANS, she is well-traveled and wise to the ways of the worlds.

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
Though capable (and even prone) of making quick decisions, Laia requires a bit of time to think through more complicated issues. She won't mope or hesitate, but she will consider.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Laia is emotional but law-bound, certain about the way the world should be. She has high ideals, and very little desire to compromise them. Things must be done properly, fairly, or not at all.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
As the daughter of President Obell Dallgun, Laia has had the best education that money can buy.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Laia is an experienced Guardian, with many hundreds of hours of field work under her belt. She is an experienced and skillful fighter, her preferred weapons being claws, spears, and axes. She has also been educated in matters of politics and diplomacy, although she still feels herself to not be completely suited to it.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Laia is an extrovert with an extremely forceful personality. She prefers to be around others, although she is selective about her company.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Laia is hot-headed and forceful, striding through life ready to take it all apart. It is not a matter of mood swings. She is steadily, constantly stern, strict, and loud. She holds herself to a high standard of behavior, and expects the same from the people around her.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Laia is cautious when presented with the unknown, but confident enough to approach new things with composure and steel in her spine. She will assess the situation carefully to ensure that it is safe, a reaction developed from a long time in the GUARDIANS.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Acting is in Laia's nature. She has much experience in planning missions and anticipating enemy movements.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
When faced with a challenge or an assault, Laia will rush into the fray.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Laia's sense of humor can be hard to pin down. She likes to tease and make sharp jokes, but doesn't appreciate having the same made about her. Pranks are immature. Puns are for idiots. Morbid humor is morbid, and morbid people need to knock it off.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Laia is an orphan, and went through many therapy sessions before and after adoption. She had issues with separation anxiety and in trusting her new father and sisters. She was severely depressed in the wake of her father's death (and the associated colony crash), and her friends had to take great measures to snap her out of it. She has been "strongly encouraged" to attend therapy to work through it, and has reluctantly gone to a session or two, but considers herself to not have enough time for touchy-feely crap of that sort.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Laia's adoption into the Dallgun family put her life on the high, shining path where it lies now. Her uncovering of the Illuminus's plots have solidified her opinions and her decision-making skills, and have further proven her capacity as a Guardian. Her father's death in saving the majority of the GUARDIANS Colony has made her realize, too late, how important her family is, and how her responsibilities extend far beyond herself and beyond her mission team.

14. What does she fear?
Laia fears failure and shame. She fears disappointing the memory of her father and her remaining sisters. She proceeds confidently, but she secretly worries about the outcome of the SEED invasion and of Illuminus's machinations.

15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Laia hopes to utterly crush the Illuminus, and to wipe the system entirely clear of the SEED. She hopes that this, along with good government, can unite the races and bring about an age of true peace, without racism and hate.

16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
It was a long-kept secret that she was Obell Dallgun's adoptive daughter. She did not want any special treatment for being related to him, and they did not always get along well. With that rappy out of the bag, she has had to face that fear down. Having done so, things seem a little less scary... although she hates, hates to have her softer emotions revealed to others. She wants the public to see her as strong, firm, and untouchable.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Laia's relationship with her adoptive father was close and warm when she was younger. He always encouraged her to pursue the activities that she wanted, and nurtured her potential as a leader and fighter. Although a busy man and sometimes overly permissive, he was devoted to her and her sisters. It was only as Laia grew older than she and her father grew distant.

Obell was an unmarried man, but there were several "aunts", whether by blood-relation to Dallgun or by friendship, that served as occasional mother figures.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Laia has three adopted sisters, who have not had any canon names stated. One is a CAST, one is a Newman, and one is Human. (For my purposes, CAST - Myun, Newman - Faalika, Human - Kara) She gets along well enough with each of them, despite petty fights and differences when they were all children. Before her father's death, Laia was distant, only occasionally returning their messages or coming to family gatherings. At present, she is making an effort to reconnect with them.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Being adopted, Laia is unaware of any blood relatives. Her family is a complete unknown. And after the massacre on Moatoob, the likelihood that of an investigation into her roots would be tragic is even higher. She puts it out of mind.

Laia remains on friendly-if-distant terms with her father's blood relatives.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
No.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Laia's closest friend (not precisely "best") is Leogini Berafort, a fellow Guardian. He's older than her and of slightly higher rank, but they've spent a large amount of non-mission time together. They talk, go out for meals, discuss politics, and otherwise pass the time and relax. They met while Laia was in training, and hit it off after a few missteps. Leo liked her spunk, and had the patience to withstand her fire until he could demonstrate that he was trustworthy enough to be a friend.

6. Does she have other close friends?
Maya Shidow and Tonnio Rhima are others who have learned to look past her temper, and who spend time with her on off hours. Hyuga Ryght considers himself to be her friend, but she's more annoyed by him and his flirtatious ways than anything else.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Laia has many allies and associates, but few close friends. Many people respect her, but they often find her hard to be around.

8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Family matters the most, when it comes down to it. Friends can come and go, and friends are hard to come by. But your family is your family, whatever form it may take.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Laia is single, and has never been married.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.

11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Laia's first crush was on a nice human boy back in mid-grade school. He had red hair and always seemed thoughtful and wise. Laia, being Laia, liked to push him into mud puddles and bully him. Needless to say, it never worked out.

Her latest crush is, much to her shame and embarrassment, Leo. It's a secret that's starting to make its way around her circle of friends, and she denies it vehemently whenever Tonio jokingly brings it up. Leo is a married man with a family, and Laia knows her crush is futile and inappropriate. Still... he's handsome. He's strong. He's noble and level-headed and the best example of a Beast man that she's ever seen. A crush of this level is a hard one to shake.

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Laia wants a strong, confident partner. Someone that will keep her on her toes and stay by her side, no matter what she does. Someone that she can confide in, and who would be a refuge from the world. And someone who can totally make the planets move and the stars shake, ifyaknowwhatImean.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
Though she considers herself still sort of young for that, she hopes to have children someday. If not biologically, then certainly through adoption.

14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
As the President of the GUARDIANS, Laia's the figurehead for a much-opposed organization. The Illuminus would very much like to take her out. She also has enemies amongst Rogue families and criminal groups.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
Laia considers herself to be straight. She rates a 2 on the Kinsey scale, as her attractions are primarily to men... but she has had some very close female friendships in her younger days. She hasn't been able to fully process the emotions involved in those. She prefers to suppress anything she sees as "weak", and she hasn't really unpacked any of it.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Sex is really awesome and she'd appreciate getting a bit more of it... but there's so much work to be done. It's important enough that she's getting a little irate from the lack of if, but not so important as to completely interfere with her work.

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
She appreciates firmness (hurr hurr) and confidence in her partners, but not ego or entitlement or dominance. She thinks sex should be something that happens between equals, and that there's room for give and take. There's a line between a playful swat on the butt and a disrespectful spank, and the evening is over if it drifts over into disrespectful.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Being from a non-Earth setting, this question is not applicable.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Laia has a vague spiritual awareness, and knows superficially of the teachings of the Church of the Holy Light, but is not an active worshiper. She has no issues with religious folk, as long as their religion isn't obstructing justice or harming others. She DOES have issue with recent decisions made by the Communion of Gurhal.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Laia is known as being "strict", and she holds herself and those under her to high standards of behavior. The GUARDIANS are a security organization, and structure is important. Laia values that structure, and attempts to employ it in her daily life, even off the field. The world is very black and white, where good is good and bad is bad and both are absolute. She must be faced with enormous, blatant, clear evidence to back down from one of her absolute decisions.

While the rules are important, however, justice matters above all. Unlike some of her predecessors in the GUARDIANS, Laia will not meekly back down when faced with the corruption of the system or a wrong that the rules have dictated to be "right". Laia will lash out at it, railing against it rather than accepting it.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Laia makes an effort to be tolerant of the beliefs of others, as that's how she was raised. It's not always easy, as she's short-tempered and opinionated, and often quick to judge others to be foolish if they're not on the same wavelength as her. But she makes that effort, because it's right. Intolerance has done horrible things to society, and she knows she must set a good example.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Laia hates "liars and scoundrels". Now, that doesn't say much. Most people hate people like that. But once Laia has made up her mind that you are a lying scoundrel, she will not let it go. Once you have crossed her, she will be against you all the way. It's mostly rational... she'll need to be presented with serious first-hand evidence, if she's to change her mind.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
As a former high-ranking Guardian now promoted to President, Laia technically has considerable financial resources at her disposal. The GUARDIANS are in a state of recovery and reconstruction, however. Showy displays of wealth would be inappropriate and distasteful, in the wake of the disaster of the Colony Crash.

2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Laia's in the upper-class of society, given her recent promotion to the President of the GUARDIANS. Before that, she was more upper-middle class. Much, much prior to that, she was an orphaned child on Moatoob.

The majority of her life was spent in upper-class comfort, raised by President Dallgun. When she set out to make her way on her own, her standard of living dropped. But she adjusted, and was proud to adjust. She enjoyed the feeling of earning her own way and of benefiting from the work of her own hands. As the new President, she's still coming to terms with what that will mean for her income, her lifestyle, and the pride that she takes in it.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
Laia has a comfortable, large apartment in the GUARDIANS Colony. It was the family home, and she's just settling herself back into it. With her father's passing, possession of the property was to pass to Laia. None of her sisters disputed the claim. She is still working to make it her own home, and the work of packing up her father's possessions is still underway. It was home once, but doesn't reallly feel like home now. It's more a repository for old memories.

She misses her old apartment, and how simple and straightforward things once were.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Good food and good drink are some of Laia's pleasures. An expensive restaurant meal, or a night at the bar can drain her finances quickly. She also has an eye for quality weaponry, and will have weapons custom-made for her when finances permit it.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Laia was a high-ranking Guardian, and is now the President of the organization. Field work was much more to her taste, and she's starting to miss it. She's capable of politicking, and is aware of the importance of her role... but still, she longs for an opponent that she can simply claw to bits.

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Laia has an appreciation for good liquor, and pays attention to brewers, years, and vintages. She was an athlete in her younger days, and still enjoys ball games and field sports. She has very little free time, these days, and usually spends it unwinding by watching old movies and having a drink to calm her nerves.

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Laia is a hearty eater, with a metabolism that helps support her appetite. She hates missing meals, and hates feeling hungry. Alas, she's only a serviceable cook, not a good one. She ate lots of take out and delivery as a Guardian, and as the President she has a hired cook come in on busy days to prepare her meals.
